Juneau Alaska (pronounced June-oh) is a small community snug in the southeast panhandle of Alaska. Surrounded by sea, mountains, and ice fields, roughly 30,000 adventurous souls call it home. The City and Borough of Juneau is larger than the state of Rhode Island, and is the only landlocked state capital in the United States (Hawaii being waterlocked). This area was originally a favorite fishing area of the Tlingit people, while the city was founded around the discovery of gold in the 1880s. Today the top employers are government, tourism, and mining.

Question: How can Juneau be the only landlocked state capitol where the only way in is by plane or boat? What about Hawaii?
Thanks! Sara

Sara: I believe Honolulu, Hawaii is considered waterlocked since it's on an island.
